Interior Design Assistant Job Description

Design assistant should be excellent communicators with strong interpersonal and organizational skills and the ability to manage their time efficiently. Assistant is responsible for assisting interior designer with various tasks. The job is perfect for anyone with a creative or artistic background who enjoys working with others and making spaces beautiful.

Interior Design Assistant Duties and Responsibilities

The responsibilities of interior design assistant will vary from place to place and depend on factors such as experience and personal capabilities. Design assistants will be expected to engage in the following activities regularly:

Provide Administrative Support

Interior design assistants will provide direct administrative support to interior designer. They may be tasked with running errands, maintaining inventory, or even contacting clients to obtain important information. Assistants may need to provide support with multiple interior projects, schedules, deliveries, invoices, and tracking.

Shop for Materials

Interior designers use a multitude of materials when working on a project, and it is the job of the assistant to obtain these materials. They may need to visit a store in person or order materials online. If materials are delivered to the home or office, assistants may need to sign for them and inspect them for any flaws.

Help With Designing Tasks

Interior design assistants provide direct assistance during projects, they may help move heavy furniture, measure rooms and items, and take photographs of spaces. They may also assist with and hanging artwork or removing artwork from walls.

Interact With Clients

Interior designers are often busy, and they may not have an opportunity to meet with everyone who wants to work with them. Interior design assistants may meet with clients directly to better understand their needs or make follow-up phone calls.

Manage Projects

Interior designers often take on several projects at once. Interior design assistants may be dispatched to oversee important projects and ensure they are completed on time and without incident. They may also make sure workers adhere to a set schedule.

Design Assistant Requirements:

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is preferred
• 1-2 years of computer and clerical experience
• Must be able to take on tasks and see them through the very end
• Confident when talking to new people or asking tough questions
• Ability to juggle multiple projects in a changing, fast-paced environment.
• Ability to go up and down stairs and carry up to 50lbs
• Must be a quick learner of new technology tools, software, and systems
