Basic Function:

Under the direct leadership and guidance of the Registered Nurse, the PCT performs various duties, both nursing and non-nursing in the treatment and care of patients and their environments. This position performs many duties such as obtaining vital signs, assisting patients with ambulation, instructing on pre-op instructions, transporting patients, providing support to OR/PACU/4 South staff for breaks and patient care. Helps transition surgical patients from pre-op to discharge.

Supervision:

Directly reports to the Nurse Manager or Registered Nurse.

Minimum qualifications:

• High school graduate or equivalent work experience, including ability to read, write, and comprehend medical terminology
• Ability to satisfactorily complete orientation inservice training program
• Good physical and mental health, ability to work under pressure, good visual and aural acuity
• Must have a positive and professional attitude toward patients, visitors, physicians and all SEORMC associates.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions; exhibit initiative and good judgment, possess a memory for details; have patience, compassion and tact, as required to meet the changing demands of the position
• Must be able to work as a team member and assist in patient care and unit activities both nursing and non-nursing as assigned
• Above average degree of consistent mental application and accuracy to provide the best possible patient care
• Possess ability to perform basic computer skills.
