DAS is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to become an integral part of our team conducting innovative software development on projects supporting Trainer Scenario Controller for various Naval Combat Training Systems for our customer at Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock, MD. Projects will provide scientific, engineering and technical services required for the design, development, integration, test, fleet implementation and maintenance of Trainer Scenario Controls utilized in Synthetic Scenario Generation based training simulation systems. This position offers the opportunity to work on leading edge Navy Combat System Training Systems. This position includes software design and development for operator controls, design and development of software interfaces for interfacing to externally developed simulation subsystems, tactical subsystems, and external trainer or scenario interfaces for connecting training systems or subsystems into a commonly executable training environment. Efforts include all phases of the R&D software development life-cycle conducted using an Agile process in software development in C, C++, Java, python and various other languages. Specifically, this effort will focus on maintaining and updating current capabilities and developing, updating, and maintaining new capabilities for the common Acoustic Instructor Console (AIC) software subsystem. This subsystem is used by the All World Environment Simulation (AWESIM) acoustic simulation and the Periscope Simulation (PSIM) visual simulation across Submarine, Surface Ship, Surveillance, and Air Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) training, testing, and analysis system builds and configurations.

Responsibilities:

• Analyze technology/capability gaps, research, develop, and deploy software solutions
• Work with project leads to define sprints and associated deliverables
• Collaborate with other developers to design and optimize code
• Conduct integration, test, bug fixes, and other software maintenance activities
• Assist in the creation of technical documentation and user guides in support of developed software

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering or Computer Science (Masters Preferred)
• 10 years of experience in software development in a Linux environment with applied experience in: Object-Oriented programming, Java, C++, and C code development, containers (Podman or Docker, Kubernetes), git and trunk development workflow.
• Excellent troubleshooting and resolution skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Must have US Citizenship (without dual citizenship) with the eligibility to obtain a US DoD security clearance. If a US DoD security clearance is not already granted, hiring will be contingent on obtaining. (Active/Inactive US DoD security clearance preferred)

• Candidate should have the ability to work in team environments across a diverse set of projects with multiple stakeholders
• Candidate should have experience in/with: design and development of Microservices, developing Helm charts for Kubernetes, Scala, Typescript, Python code development, Buildah, proactive problem solving, performing peer reviews, managing code releases and deployments, providing technical and team leadership.

Additional Salary Information:

• The salary range provided covers multiple levels of experience and capabilities.
• Salary offered to a successful candidate will be commensurate with the breadth and depth of that candidate's experience.

Additional Location Information:

• Successful candidates (with or after obtaining clearance) will start work at the NSWC Carderock facility in Bethesda, MD
• Depending on team workload requirements, candidates work location may move to our McLean, VA corporate facility.
