Alosa Health is a nonprofit Boston-based organization that disseminates evidence-based, non- commercial medication information to health care professionals through educational outreach visits (“academic detailing”) to prescribers. We partner with an independent group of physicians and researchers on the faculty of Harvard Medical School, and have no ties to any pharmaceutical companies. (see www.AlosaHealth.org)

For a new program to help physicians address the opioid crisis, we are seeking energetic, outgoing, full-time clinical professionals to be part of our team of clinical educators. The program is supported by an unrestricted grant from Aetna.

Position Description:

Clinical Educators make one-on-one educational visits to healthcare professionals, providing balanced information about the efficacy, safety, and cost effectiveness of medication use. Applicants need to have a degree in pharmacy, nursing, or medicine with 3-5 years of experience.

We are seeking independent contractors who can work flexible hours to meet with prescribers in Ohklamhoma City, OK to educate prescribers on the management of chronic pain without the overuse of opioids, use of naloxone in high-risk patients, and identification and care of patients with opioid use disorder who may benefit from medication assisted treatment. Clinical Educators will receive substantial content and programmatic support from the home office in Boston, MA.

Responsibilities include:

  • Participating in training that includes webinars and two-day training sessions in Boston.
  • Delivering one-on-one educational visits to physicians and health professionals, using specially designed evidence-based Alosa Health materials are used to complement the presentation.
  • Establishing and maintaining positive, service-oriented relationships with prescribers and office staff through repeated office visits and contacts.
  • Developing creative outreach strategies to access offices, schedule appointments and follow up on requests for information and service.
  • Contributing to the design and development of new Alosa Health educational materials.
  • Acting as a liaison between the physician community and the Alosa Health home office.

Qualifications:

  • Applicant must be either an RN, APRN, PA, MD, PharmD, or RPh.
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of clinical and pharmacological information relevant to a primary care practice.
  • Must be able to assess physicians’ needs, clearly judge and communicate relevant medical information, and deliver engaging presentations.
  • Must have strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work well both independently and as part of a team.
  • Also preferred: experience in medications management and therapeutic decision- making, research, epidemiology, public health, health education, and/or pharmaceutical or medical sales experience.
  • Must be comfortable with learning user-friendly computer applications such as Salesforce.com and other common programs.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and a flexible schedule, with the ability to visit physicians during various times throughout the day.
