Job Summary

Educational Requirements

General Patient Care

  • Greets patients and escorts them from the reception room to the exam room
  • Prepares patients for exam or treatment by taking a history, height/weight, and blood pressure, discuss all medications with the patient and check all medications that the patient brings to the appointment; document all information in EHR system.
  • Documents all lab orders in diagnostic testing and sends to Lab .
  • Prepares exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments and supplies
  • Draws labs as needed
  • Pulls charts up on the computer for physicians when patient is ready in exam room
  • Assists physicians in preparing for examinations and minor procedures
  • Administers injections, properly performs EKG, Nebulizer treatments, O2 saturations, oxygen usage if necessary and aware of Emergency Kit and its Contents. Understands Anemia Clinic Protocol.
  • Provides general nursing care to patients; administers prescribed medications, treatments, calling and paging physician with panic labs and completing “To Do List” and Stat office email throughout the day every day.

Telephone and Administrative

  • Returns patient phone messages at designated times throughout the day; documents action taken in EHR
  • Triages incoming telephone calls; instruct patient and family regarding treatment instruction, then documents action taken in EHR
  • Telephones prescription requests to pharmacy; documents action in patient chart and obtains physician signature of approval
  • Ensures that emergency situations are taken care of appropriately; maintains timely flow of patients
  • Properly completes forms for patients in a timely manner
  • Communicates physician referral requests to staff for necessary processing
  • Schedules appointments

Other

  • Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations
  • Attends office staff meetings; performs late duties if applicable
  • Maintains patient confidentiality; complies with HIPAA and compliance guidelines established by the practice

Typical Physical Demands

Position requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, as well as manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Involves standing and walking. Employee will occasionally be asked to lift and carry items weigh up to 30 pounds. Normal visual acuity and hearing are required.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $12.00 - $15.00 per hour

Education:

  • High school or equivalent (Preferred)

Experience:

  • medical assisting: 1 year (Preferred)

License/Certification:

  • BLS Certification (Preferred)
  • Certified Medical Assistant (Preferred)
