Come be a part of an exciting clean energy technology startup in beautiful Fort Collins, CO! You will work together with an ambitious and talented group of individuals decarbonizing the industrial heat sector.

To achieve that goal, AtmosZero is seeking an experienced Principal Aerodynamics Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will have a strong background in simulating and developing advanced turbomachinery from concept to prototype and production.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Lead aerodynamic design and performance assessment for high-speed rotating turbomachinery
  • Use a combination of hand calculations, meanline, and CFD tools (such as ANSYS CFX/Fluent, COMPAL, or OpenFOAM) to design, simulate, and analyze turbomachinery performance
  • Develop and optimize turbomachinery designs from clean sheet to prototype and production
  • Design experiments to validate CFD results and optimize turbomachinery performance
  • Collaborate with other engineers and mechanical designers to design and optimize full system performance
  • Write technical reports and presentations to summarize findings and recommend design improvements

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field
  • 5+ years of industry experience in aerodynamic design, preferably in the turbomachinery industry, especially centrifugal and axial compressors and turbines
  • Proficiency in CFD tools such as ANSYS CFX/Fluent, COMPAL, or OpenFOAM
  • Experience with developing aerodynamic designs to 3D models using turbomachinery design software such as BladeModeler, COMPAL, or AxCent
  • Experience in CAD software, such as Solidworks
  • Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and numerical analysis
  • Knowledge of volume manufacturing processes
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment

Preferred Candidates have one or more of the following Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field
  • 10+ years of industry experience in aerodynamic design, preferably in the turbomachinery industry
  • Experience with thermal systems process design
  • Proficiency in automating commercial CFD or FEA tools to develop optimal designs

Pay: $120,000.00 - $155,000.00 per year
