Summary:The primary purpose of this position is to provide for the conceptualization, development, design, evaluation, recommendation, and upon approval, execution of engineering programs that will contribute to the Manufacturing objectives. This requires that activities be self-initiated and self-directed, as well as responsive to needs as defined. The primary goal is to complete projects on time within budget.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES may include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Recommend to the Plant Engineer both short and long-range facility improvements, facility expansions, and manufacturing equipment projects. Conduct implementation studies for process or method improvements.
  • Provides organization and a detail-oriented approach using an approved project management methodology.
  • Ensures that all project documentation is complete and that all project deliverables are on schedule and within specification and budget.
  • Facilitates all major approval points. Identifies when each needs to occur, and follows up on approval outcomes.
  • Evaluate and make recommendations of new processing equipment and systems for adaptation to the manufacturing process. This includes the evaluation of a proposal’s impact on efficiency and its cost-effectiveness.
  • Conduct detailed technical studies of existing equipment problems; analyze alternative solutions, and provide conclusion and recommendations
  • Develop project specifications; conduct pre-bid information meetings with contractors, gather contractor bids; analyze and award bids; schedule and supervise equipment installations.
  • Facilitates all major approval points. Identifies when each needs to occur, and follows up on approval outcomes.
  • Reports project status on a regular basis to management, and project team
  • Works with team members to define and maintain the project scope, requirements and deliverables.
  • Manages cross functional teams in an efficient and productive manner to complete required tasks
  • Coordinates with team members in the creation of project schedules, maintains project budgets, and provides project leadership through the construction and transition stages.
  • Possesses strong problem-solving capabilities
  • Prepares and maintain meeting minutes for all project meetings; keeps track and follows up on all open items.
  • Provide or arrange supervision of equipment installation on weekends.
  • On all projects over $5,000.00, obtain three competitive bids. Exceptions must be explained and documented.
  • Generate Purchase Orders and keep track of project costs using the company’s ERP system and Thomas Capital Projects Data Base.
  • Complete and obtain all contractor paper work and place on file. This includes certificates of insurance (general liability and workers comp.), purchase orders and contractor’s handout (reviewed and signed).
  • Coordinate all project activities between contractor and the plant departments involved. Ensure that all Company rules are enforced, as well as, local, state and federal laws, (i.e. OSHA).
  • Provide monthly activity and project status report to the Plant Engineer due at the end of every month. This will be done through a project summary memo.
  • Conduct daily (or as needed) information and planning meetings on major projects requiring the coordination of activities with other departments, Amy’s personnel, or contractors.
  • Generate mechanical and electrical drawings using AutoCAD. Develop and maintain a drawing library including a drawing numbering system as well as an up to date log.
  • Utilize Microsoft Project for projects that require critical path scheduling, Gantt charts, and milestone schedules are germane to the effective and efficient conduct of the project.
  • For projects involving plant employees, (i.e. mechanics, electricians), schedule employees through the Maintenance Manager, and supervise employees while they are assigned to work on the project. Notice to Maintenance should be given, whenever possible, at least 5 days in advance.
  • Provide technical support to all plant departments on an as needed basis.
  • On an as needed basis assist the Maintenance Department with technical support, and training.
  • It is the responsibility of all employees to uphold the mission of the Amy’s Food Safety and Quality Policy. This includes following all Food Safety and Sustainability programs and participating in all required training.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities. At times, may be required to supervise the daily activities of other employees working on projects he/she is managing.

EDUCATION

  • BS Degree in Engineering from a four year college or university.

EXPERIENCE

  • A minimum of zero to five (0-5) years of experience as a project engineer or project manager in a similar environment.

SKILLS

  • Must be PC literate, with a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Project 98.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Able to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write correspondence.
  • Able to effectively present information in one-on-one and group situations to other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
