  • Other special projects and duties as assigned.

  • High School Graduate, at least 18 years old, and entering or returning to undergraduate studies at an accredited school in the fall of 2023.

Software Design and Development

UI/UX Design

We are looking for User Experience Designer Intern to join our integrated, cross-functional team. This is a special opportunity to contribute to the innovation and delivery of our digital touchpoints across web and mobile, helping us fulfill our mission of healing humanity through science and compassion, one patient at a time.

Responsibilities:

  • Generate insights through advanced research practices and continuous discovery (generative, evaluative)
  • Cultivate shared understanding through facilitation, sketching, workshops, patient engagement at the bedside, in the home, and more
  • Make sense of complexity through the framing of problem and vision, diagrams, and information architecture
  • Communicate user experience through patient personas, stories, journeys maps
  • Iterate toward optimal solutions through experiments and prototypes, ranging from hand-made artifacts to interactive digital simulations
  • Communicate and document design decisions and collaborate closely with other team members in business and development, partnering to resolve implementation issues and ensure quality

Preferred Skills:

  • General understanding of UX design for mobile and web, responsive, accessibility standards, technology trends, and demonstrable design skills
  • Ability to use visual thinking, storyboards, sketching, and communication design to create breakthrough interaction design
  • General understanding of fundamental visual design disciplines (typography, iconography, composition, color, composition, layout, etc.)
  • Meticulous sense of detail and ability to seek out simple solutions to complex design challenges
  • Proficiency with design tools such as Adobe AEM, XD, Sketch, or similar programs (Figma, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.)
  • General knowledge of HTML5, CSS3, and other front-end programming languages to help direct and translate design into functioning code
  • General understanding of lean and agile user-centered approaches and methodologies
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization verbally and in written communication
  • Ability to approach a project from multiple angles with a creative-out of the box design approach and deliver on a variety of solutions
  • Ability to sketch, quickly mockup and defend design ideas
  • Ability to work on multiple overlapping projects
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Possession of any qualifying licenses or certifications
  • Degree in Graphic Design, Design Communication, Human-Computer Interaction, or equivalent experience in a work-related field/program

Web and Mobile App Development

Candidate will be performing software development duties on the MyHealth patient portal for Stanford Health Care. Skills and studies of software development in one of the following is required:

Web Front End: JavaScript, HTML, CSS, ReactJS, AngularJS

Mobile Development: Android or iOS native platforms

DevOps: Linux/MacOS, Shell scripting, Jenkins, AWS, Java

All candidates should possess strong communication skills.

Software Design and Development

This internship will provide hands-on exposure to the following responsibilities: Major version server migrations; Overseeing security patchings and post-patch validation; Site development & enhancements in SharePoint Online; Application development in Power Apps and Power BI; Generating reports on analytics & site health; Refactoring automation workflows to adhere to changing business requirements in identity management.

Enable AB Test Dashboards in search engine with different pipelines to test and measure the impact of various different search pipeline configurations with key KPI’s.

Augment the existing search experience signal driven by data feedback loop.

Assist with Enterprise Architecture tools, learn new EA methodologies, processes, principles, and, tools while helping SHC create technology architecture blueprints. Creating a current state integration map

and Confluence POC for integration documents.

The expectation is that you are a driven, motivated individual that can take directions but independently research and work on deliverables. Analytical approach to problem solving is a must. Machine Learning

The candidate will work on projects developing machine learning (ML) models and bringing other ML based innovations to advance the health system.

Solution Architect

Join a team of smart, hard-working Solution Architect professionals dedicated to making a difference at Stanford Health Care. We collaborate on new and changing solutions with business and technology partners beginning with problem ideation culminating in architecture views. We also present solution architecture documentation to an Architecture Review Board for solution approval. This cross-functional role can be the launch pad of your career. Learn Solution and Enterprise Architecture methodologies and tools to provide visualization of architecture views. Knowledge of modeling languages preferred, e.g., ArchiMate, BPMN, but not required and can be learned on the job. Pair up with team members to develop intake documentation, document patterns, and model architecture. Knowledge of infrastructure technologies, e.g., network, virtual servers, databases, is a plus.

Customer Experience and Support – (In Person)

The intern will work closely with the Identity and Access Management, Service Desk, Field Services, Audio Visual, Clinical Communications, IT Asset Management, and Telecom teams at SHC, UHA, SHC - ValleyCare, and School of Medicine. The intern will be working on a project to help refine and improve the Clinical Customer Experience. Activities include but are not limited to:

  • Assist with building out surveys
  • Conduct end user surveys in clinics and clinical areas
  • Gather and analyze survey feedback
  • Review how our end user devices work with clinical workflows
  • Coordinate with Patient Experience and Patient Care Services to refine workflows with end user devices
  • Review end user training
  • Facilitate user groups for feedback on end user devices and training
  • Propose adjustments to training
  • Assist with pop-up targeted tech bars
  • Review service recovery data to improve customer experience and training

Biomedical Engineer – (In Person)

  • Document and track the compliance and regulatory work completed on medical equipment, systems, and devices
  • Analyze reports of Preventative Maintenance and repair data across the hospital enterprise
  • Participate in operational and capital projects which require documenting and tracking medical equipment and Biomedical Engineering systems implementations

IT Clinical Applications – Population Health and Inpatient Systems

Intern will be participating in key Population Health initiatives like Workforce Health and Wellness, Healthy Planet Dashboards and metrics, and Compass Rose. Looking for candidates who are able to schedule meetings, coordinate large groups of meeting membership, take meeting minutes, organize go-live logistics.

Intern will be involved in maintenance and support activities with regards to Health Information Exchange and Clinical applications. This will entail facilitating meetings with providers, clinic staff, other TDS teams, troubleshooting issues, and data validation, with guidance from team members.

Support clinical application projects in flight, provide technical documentation review & optimization, and lead ad hoc process improvement projects. Provide technical and data analysis input. Understanding of Office 365, Solutions Architecture & software development life cycle preferred.

  • Assist with internal knowledge management documentation clean up and record name modifications.
  • Assist with Test Script modifications, content updates and version control.
  • Coordinate and organize process improvement opportunities to Team website, communication models and Epic tools such as Reporting WorkBench, Security analysis
  • Assist with maintenance requests to understand the types of work involved in health care IT
  • Assist with day-to-day operations and projects. Assist with performance improvement projects, technical documentation, meeting agenda and presentation design, test script updates and execution, and other team duties.

IT Ambulatory

Assist with setting up SNOW Task Dashboards for Enhancement Sprint, Clinic Implementation, etc.)

Assist with knowledge article creation for internal processes and update existing articles.

Process improvement opportunities to Team website, Test script updates, etc.

IT UHA

Intern will be assigned to the IT Clinicals Applications and Network of Care Operations Portfolio of Work, inclusive of but not limited to, documenting clinical and revenue cycle workflows across portfolios, updating the Network of Care Playbook, coming up with standard projects plans for implementations (depending on complexity), dashboard for cross portfolio budget management.

Technology and Digital Solutions Project Management

This role will assist senior project and program managers in executing, monitoring, and closing projects. The individual will assist with project scoping, developing schedules, analyzing data, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure project successful project execution. They will also identify areas for process improvement and work with stakeholders to implement solutions.

Technology and Digital Solutions Analytics

You will be joining the Technology and Digital Services Analytics (TDSA) team that serves the reporting and analytics needs of Stanford Health Care. This position will focus primarily on management and optimization of reporting from our Electronic Medical Record system, Epic, using a number of tools including:

  • SAP Business Objects
  • Tableau
  • SQL
  • Epic Cogito (SlicerDicer, Epic Metrics, RWB with SQL, etc.)

This role also provides exposure to department offerings such as: clinical reporting and analytics, data management, data architecture, self-service reporting, and data governance. You will participate in a variety of professional and learning experiences, including but not limited to:

  • Reporting assessment and utilization review to identify reports for retirement or transition to new tools
  • Define guidelines and processes for transitioning reporting to tools
  • Develop project and user communication plans for transition of reporting

Successful candidates will have skills in:

  • Formulating and presenting basic concepts to a group of users and leadership. Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Change management.
  • Basic working knowledge of SQL in an Oracle or SQL Server environment.
  • Some working knowledge of BI query tools such as Business Objects and Tableau.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and SharePoint
