JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

The Transportation Operations Manager is responsible for the direction and oversight of the trucking division, providing on-budget management and leadership of all trucking division personnel.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

Transportation Operations Manager directly reports to VP - Operations and is accountable to Construction Workeragers, Asphalt Paving Superintendents, and Regional Plant Managers.

REQUIREMENTS:

A. EDUCATION

College degree (4-year) preferred with transportation/trucking background.

Three to five years’ experience in Transportation/Trucking Management.

B. SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

1. Leadership and negotiating skills

2. Ability to multi-task as necessary

3. Accurate and strong organizational skills

4. Strong computer skills and familiarity with trucking industry standard systems and software.

5. Good written and spoken communication skills

C. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Transportation Operations Manager’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. Responsible for divisional economic performance.

2. Prepare annual operating budget for the transportation division.

3. Responsible for managing assets and available business to minimize operational expenses while maximizing equipment utilization.

4. Supervise staff to monitor operations at all company truck locations, ensuring workload is completed per customers’ expectations; efficiently, safely and compliant with all applicable regulations. Assist Area and Construction Workeragers for internal/external trucking needs. Assist Asphalt Plant Managers with deliveries and other trucking needs.

5. Plan with corporate leadership to determine strategic direction of the transportation division.

6. Leadership, administer training, recruiting, development, promoting and discipline of transportation division employees.

7. Assist with scheduling of staff and equipment to respond immediately to trucking concerns in the field with each area office.

8. Develop and implement divisional standard operating procedures.

9. Develop and implement compliant, effective safety programs with Safety Director’s assistance.

10. Work with management, human resources, and area supervision to determine staffing levels, job descriptions, and assist in the recruitment of drivers and support staff.

11. Remain knowledgeable on current industry regulations, trends, and other relevant information.

12. Coordinate with Fleet Manager and area supervision to keep trucks and trailers maintained, safe, and operating per federal and state laws while managing associated costs.

13. Periodic performance reviews with transportation division employees.

14. Approve all invoices, payroll and charges to the transportation division.

15. Actively promote safety and quality in transportation division employees and in the operation of the equipment.

D. SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL

1. Enforce all rules listed in the Ajax Employee Safe Practices Handbook.

2. Insure all Ajax quality standards are met.

3. Insure adherence to all federal, state, local and Ajax Safety and Environmental Rules and Regulations.

4. Please refer to items 4,9,11,12 and 15 from the job responsibilities list.

E. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Office, garage and field environment.

Ability to work days, nights and weekends as required.

F. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The essential functions of this position includes sitting, standing, walking, climbing, reaching, bending, trunk movements, lifting minimum of 45 lbs., carrying, pushing/pulling, low level work, dexterity of hands and fingers, seeing, hearing and talking.

G. CHARACTER REQUIREMENTS

This position demands an individual with the following strengths:

H. MISCELLANEOUS

1. Dependability a must.

2. Provide proper notification of status and direction for time off and coverage.

3. Maintaining work area in a neat and orderly manner.

4. Travel may be required to provide coverage for our locations.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $75,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
